Rebuilding Sri Lanka: A Fifth IT Laboratory Opens at Ananda College, Chilaw On 10th February 2026, Technocity Pvt Ltd marked a significant milestone in its corporate social responsibility journey with the successful completion of its fifth IT laboratory, this time at Ananda College, Chilaw. The handover forms part of the broader Rebuilding Sri Lanka program, launched to restore educational infrastructure and uplift communities affected by the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah in late 2025. For a school community still recovering from that disaster, a fully equipped computer laboratory is more than new hardware. It's a signal that recovery includes looking forward, not just repairing what was lost. The event was graced by Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, who attended as Chief Guest. Famy Ismail, Chairman of Technocity Pvt Ltd and Laptop.lk, attended as Guest of Honor, alongside Mr. Kadeer, Director of Technocity Pvt Ltd, and Mr. Hemal Chandrathne, Head of Services. The IT equipment donated to Ananda College was valued at approximately LKR 6.5 million, contributing to the overall LKR 50 million commitment Technocity Pvt Ltd has pledged toward the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative. It's a pledge being delivered one school at a time, and this laboratory represents another substantial step toward fulfilling it. It is the third laboratory delivered under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative, and another concrete step toward closing the digital divide for rural students. The investment for this single laboratory stands at LKR 2.5 million, a substantial contribution that equips students at Dammaloka Maha Vidyalaya with the modern tools they need to thrive in a technology-driven world. The goal behind bringing high-quality hardware to Chilaw is a simple one: geography should never limit a child's potential. That goal carries particular weight this year. Sri Lanka is still recovering from Cyclone Ditwah, which struck the country in late November 2025 and caused widespread flooding and damage across every district, including the North Western Province. Against that backdrop, restoring and upgrading school ICT infrastructure isn't just a nice-to-have. This marks the third laboratory in the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative, following the labs already delivered at Zahira College, Puttalam, and Thambarawila Maha Vidyalaya, Chilaw. Each one adds another school, and another community, to a growing network of digitally empowered classrooms across the country.

Rebuilding Sri Lanka: A New IT Laboratory for Zahira College, Puttalam On 17th January, Technocity officially inaugurated its first IT laboratory under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative at Zahira College, Puttalam, a milestone that brings modern digital learning within reach of students across the North Western Province. The laboratory is equipped with 20 brand-new Intel Core i5 branded PC systems, each fitted with 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, paired with 22 inch monitors, UPS units, and the tables and chairs needed to turn the space into a proper working classroom. Altogether, the setup represents an investment of Rs. 5 million, funded entirely as part of Technocity's ongoing commitment to expanding access to technology in schools that need it most. Puttalam was a deliberate starting point. The new facility does not serve Zahira College alone. It has been established to support the wider Puttalam and Chilaw districts, giving students and teachers from as many as 40 schools in the region a place to build the digital skills that are quickly becoming essential, whether for coursework, exams, or the working world that follows. For many students in the area, this laboratory will be their first real, sustained exposure to a properly equipped computer classroom. That kind of access changes what's possible in a classroom. It opens the door to computer literacy programs, digital examinations, research, and the everyday familiarity with technology that students in better-resourced schools often take for granted. This is only the first step. As the second phase of the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative, Chilaw Ananda College is next in line to receive a brand-new IT laboratory of its own, extending the same opportunity further into the region.
