The handover forms part of the broader Rebuilding Sri Lanka program, launched to restore educational infrastructure and uplift communities affected by the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah in late 2025. For a school community still recovering from that disaster, a fully equipped computer laboratory is more than new hardware. It's a signal that recovery includes looking forward, not just repairing what was lost. The event was graced by Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, who attended as Chief Guest. It is the third laboratory delivered under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative, and another concrete step toward closing the digital divide for rural students. The investment for this single laboratory stands at LKR 2.5 million, a substantial contribution that equips students at Dammaloka Maha Vidyalaya with the modern tools they need to thrive in a technology-driven world. Sri Lanka is still recovering from Cyclone Ditwah, which struck the country in late November 2025 and caused widespread flooding and damage across every district, including the North Western Province. Rebuilding Sri Lanka: Lab No. 2 Opens at Thambarawila Maha Vidyalaya, Chilaw On 5th February, Technocity and Laptop.lk unveiled the second IT laboratory under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative at Thambarawila Maha Vidyalaya in Chilaw, giving students in the area access to quality digital education for the first time. The fully equipped facility represents a total investment of LKR 3 million, and was designed to be more than just a room full of computers. It is powered by the latest ASUS PCs for high-performance computing, paired with 22 inch Philips monitors for enhanced visibility and better ergonomics. UPS protection safeguards every system against power fluctuations, and the space is fitted with proper tables and chairs built for long study sessions. Every part of the setup was chosen with a clear purpose in mind. The systems are capable of supporting coding, design, research, and advanced applications, so the lab can grow with its students rather than becoming outdated as their needs do. The UPS protection means a power interruption doesn't have to mean a lost lesson or a damaged system. And the furniture was chosen specifically to encourage better posture and productivity during long sessions, because comfort matters when students are expected to focus for hours at a time. For Thambarawila Maha Vidyalaya, this laboratory marks a genuine turning point. Where students previously had little or no exposure to a properly resourced computer classroom, they now have a future-ready learning environment built for the kind of digital skills that today's education, and tomorrow's workplace, increasingly demand. This is Lab No. 2 in the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative, following the laboratory handed over at Zahira College, Puttalam. Rebuilding Sri Lanka: A New IT Laboratory for Zahira College, Puttalam On 17th January, Technocity officially inaugurated its first IT laboratory under the Rebuilding Sri Lanka initiative at Zahira College, Puttalam, a milestone that brings modern digital learning within reach of students across the North Western Province. The laboratory is equipped with 20 brand-new Intel Core i5 branded PC systems, each fitted with 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, paired with 22 inch monitors, UPS units, and the tables and chairs needed to turn the space into a proper working classroom. Altogether, the setup represents an investment of Rs. 5 million, funded entirely as part of Technocity's ongoing commitment to expanding access to technology in schools that need it most. Puttalam was a deliberate starting point. The new facility does not serve Zahira College alone. It has been established to support the wider Puttalam and Chilaw districts, giving students and teachers from as many as 40 schools in the region a place to build the digital skills that are quickly becoming essential, whether for coursework, exams, or the working world that follows. For many students in the area, this laboratory will be their first real, sustained exposure to a properly equipped computer classroom. That kind of access changes what's possible in a classroom.
